Gresham, OR.—The Gresham GreyWolves are excited to announce the first player release of the 2017 season! We will be releasing a group of players each week, leading up to the 2017 season.
Chris Brown (Left Handed Pitcher) – Sophomore – UC Davis
The GreyWolves are excited to get one of their most experienced left handed pitchers back for the 2017 season; Brown was one of the most reliable arms during the stretch run for Gresham. His 4 inning shutout relief appearance against Wenatchee (1 H, 5 K’s) triggered his hot finish in the 2nd half. His highlights included a 7-inning one run performance at Bend, and a 9-inning three hit performance at Walla Walla. Brown finished the year 3-3 for the GreyWolves, and he looks to ride that momentum into a strong 2017 summer. Chris appeared in 29 games, throwing a total of 54.2 innings in his freshman campaign at UC Davis. Coach Barchus had some thoughts on the return of Brown. “We’re really excited to get Chris back on the pitching staff this summer, he’s a great change of pace arm, and when he’s on, he’s as tough as anyone out there to square up”.
Donavon Ramirez (Right Handed Pitcher) – Junior – Cal State East Bay
Another member of the GreyWolves pitching staff returning this summer is the live-arm of Donavon Ramirez. Ramirez had a 4-3 record for the GreyWolves last summer, sporting an extremely low 2.20 ERA in 49 innings pitched. He was a duel use arm during the season, being seen out of the bullpen early in the year, and getting his fair share of starts during the stretch run. Coach Barchus looks to use him in a very similar manner this summer “Don is great to have because of his versatility; he has a deceptive motion so he’s great to use out of the bullpen, but he has the leg and arm strength to start a game for you as well”. Ramirez also carried a 4-3 win-loss record for Cal State East Bay last spring, and he looks to be a big part of their plans, as well as Gresham’s this season.
Michael Clark (Right Handed Pitcher) – Sophomore – Cal Poly
Gresham fans can look forward to getting their 2016 saves leader back in Michael Clark. Clark carried a 3.74 ERA and had 6 saves, along with 19 strikeouts in 21.2 innings during the 2016 summer. He also brings a great deal of leadership back to the GreyWolves bullpen according to Coach Barchus “It’ll be great to have a proven guy coming out of the bullpen in the late innings, Mike has the unique ability to keep his teammates loose during a game, but also leads by example with how serious he takes winning”. Clark is looking to build on his 2016 spring with Cal Poly, and will surely bring his enthusiasm and knack for the big moment back to Gresham this upcoming summer.
