Three More Players Returning to Gresham!

Gresham, OR — Our weekly player release brings you three more returning players for the 2017 season!

Rilyn Lewchuk (Right Handed Pitcher) – Junior – Corban

Lewchuk was arguably the most dangerous arm that Gresham put out on the mound last season, and unfortunately for the rest of the WCL, he will make his return to the Wolf Den this June. The ace of the Corban Warriors pitching staff, Lewchuk dominated in his 28 innings for the GreyWolves last summer. With a 3-1 record, and 1.93 ERA, Lewchuk was a staple in the rotation for the most of the season. Last spring coming off an arm injury that had him sidelined for a year; Rilyn started in all 13 games appeared in for Corban, pitching in 79.2 innings on the season for a 5-4 record… Registering a 2.82 ERA. Coach Barchus can’t wait to have Lewchuk back in the rotation, “Rilyn is the poster-child for mound presence; he is never too excited, never worked up, never shows his team anything but confidence from the bump. He doesn’t win with velocity, he wins with control and finesse, and we look forward to seeing an older more experienced Rilyn this season”.

Carter Buuck (Left Handed Pitcher) — Junior – Linfield

Carter Buuck will be back for his 3rd summer in the WCL (Klamath Falls/Gresham), and will be one of the main cogs in the machine that is the GreyWolves pitching staff. Buuck led the GreyWolves in appearances last summer (21), and finished the year with a 3.27 ERA over 44 innings pitched. Coach Barchus is extremely excited about Buuck’s versatility, “Carter is a player that I’ve coached for two summers, and I have a ton of trust in his ability to enter the game in any situation. Last year he filled just about every spot on the pitching staff for us, and he’s one of the most respected players on the team”. Buuck transferred to Linfield this past spring from Concordia University in Wisconsin, where he was named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Freshman of the Year and an ABCA All-Midwest Region Third Team selection.

Dylan Doherty (Shortstop) – Sophomore – Cal Poly

They say when you build a baseball team, you build it up the middle first. Fortunately for the GreyWolves they’ll have their returning Shortstop, and leadoff hitter back for the 2017 season. Doherty was consistently at the top of the lineup card for the GreyWolves, and we expect you’ll see him there again this summer. Coach Barchus: “Dylan brings so much to the table offensively for us; he understands his role at the top of the lineup, and consistently reaches base for us. He also brings experience and leadership in the middle of the infield, which will be key this summer as we try to put a WCL championship team out on the field”. Doherty finished the WCL season with a .264 Batting average, .400 on-base percentage, and a .950 fielding percentage with only 7 errors in 131 opportunities, all from shortstop. Dylan played in 28 games for Cal Poly in his freshman season, and looks to be a big contributor this spring as well.
