Gresham, Ore. -- After starting the 2017 West Coast League season up north in Bellingham, the Gresham GreyWolves returned to the friendly confines of Oslund Fieldnight in victorious fashion, defeating the Cowlitz Black Bears by a final score of 11-5.
Two GreyWolves making their season debuts led the way offensively for Gresham, who tied a season-high with 11 runs scored. Left fielder Tyler Parker finished the game 4-4, with a double, three singles, and four runs batted it. Connor Bock went 2-4 with a home run and four runs batted it as well. The duo combined to knock in eight of Gresham's 11 runs in the game.
Gresham drew seven more walksnight, including five off starter Cole Henderson, who did not make it out of the second inning and suffered the loss in his first start of the season.
GreyWolves starter Jeremy Polon allowed two runs on six hits in four innings, but reliever Dakota Weindel threw the final five innings and allowed three runs (none of them earned) en route to the victory. Weindel improves to 1-0 on the season with the win.
First baseman Ross Puskarich extended his team-best four-game hit streakwith a lead-off double in the fifth inning. Puskarich is the only GreyWolf to hit safely in all four games this year, though Aaron Simpson has reached base safely each game.
With the win, Gresham improves to 2-2 on the young season. With the South-division leaders Corvallis Knights idle, the GreyWolves are now 1.5 games back of the division lead.
